For the next time people tell me I'm overreacting and throwing the word 'fascism' around and hey, look, the Settlers in 2005 were treated the same way! ...Yeah, I'm yet to see a single right wing protester being sent to jail for three months for... peaceful protesting. When they were evicting settlements people didn't even get prosecuted for throwing acid at soldiers. I'm a bit ragey about this attitude in particular cos I've been having a couple too many discussions with Elisheva lately. She's a wonderful person, but a) she doesn't read newspapers and b) OMG you can see she's coming from a religious right-wing background. She's actually questioning things, which is good, but... it's hard to explain. We had a discussion about stuff and at some point I said that being left-wing like I am sort of makes you feel unwelcome here anymore, and she was like "well yeah in 2005 it was pretty bad being religious too". I'm not sure how much of it is her own experience and how much is stuff people TOLD her. And I'm making a point out of it because, as someone who was firmly in the secular-leftist section in 2005, I don't quite recall it was common for people to randomly be nasty to religious people because they were religious. I'm not saying nothing ever happened... but her impression of things does seem to be exaggerated. Which is why I wonder if most of it isn't "people told me...". And that was for several months. And then things calmed down. Things aren't calming down now. And let's admit it, when the shabak calls in right wing activists for 'a chat', it's usually due to stuff like... planting bombs, murder threats, that sort of silly nonsense that had never hurt anyone. When they call in left wing activists it's for, what was it, also published this week? Oh yes. "You're not breaking the law. Yet."
