30 days of fanfic meme, form [livejournal.com profile] magnavox_23 and [livejournal.com profile] sg_wonderland

1. How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?

Well, that would depend on how you define "first". We had a notebook for writing stories in my second year at school, and at 8 I wrote stories about characters called Laura and Mary Ingles. I can't remember if it was actually Little House on the Prairie compliant or I just stole the names. Around the same time I also started to write a story starring my favourite Bionic Six character, Bunji Bennet. Then my older sister saw it and mocked me, and I haven't written anything resembling fanfiction for years. Don't ask me for complicated things as motivation. It's been so long that the only thing I can tell you is that I liked these books and TV show!

So my first "serious" one was an SG-1/ Atlantis fanfic. I got into it for the same reason I end up writing all my stories - I reach a certain saturation of obsessiveness where reading/watching the fandom isn't enough, discussing the fandom in forums isn't enough, and reading other people's stories isn't enough. So I just write my own.

What pulled me into SG1 fandom? C'mon, I've been the biggest fan for years and years. Specifically at that point it was after years of being stuck on the Channel 1 (awful) broadcasting schedule, broadband has become available so me and my dad downloaded the whole series (then in mid-series 8) and I re-watched the whole thing. See: obsessiveness levels. The first season of Atlantis also left me with some hopes for the future (yes yes, they were soon squashed, but y'know, for a while there it actually looked like they'd be improving!)

Rest of days under the cut )
